I question my ability. Constantly. No career, no responsibility, no task has ever been bigger. Just existing in their presence is not adequate. I want them to learn from me and with me.
Recently they learned that the white soap in the bathtub will burn their eyes. If you cry really, really, hard you almost always get what you want. We taught them to recognize Usher and Ludicris and how to slide through a tunnel that was elevated by the couch. Charlie mastered opening the refrigerator to beg for cheese and Gracie can open every door in the house including those with child proof handles. Gracie can write her name. Charlie can write on the walls and the carpet. Charlie can dance. Gracie can dance inappropriately while not wearing clothes. Charlie can read her favorite book and scream “boobies!!” at unfitting times—in public. Last weekend they learned that sometimes mommy willingly shrinks into a corner to share space with a dried up spaghetti-o and a pile of dog hair.
Gracie can take pictures with my phone.
